stringcalc.tension.gauge(density, T, L, pitch)#

From density, scale length, pitch, and desired tension, compute gauge. Not nominal gauge, precise diameter.

Parameters:
  • density (float) –

    String material density [lbm in-3].

    Important

Although [kg m-3] and [g cm-3] units are more common for density, currently you must convert to [lbm in-3] in order to get a correct answer. But Pint support for this is coming soon!

  • T (float) – Tension [lbf].

  • L (float) – Scale length [in].

  • pitch (str) – Pitch name in SPN, e.g. “A4”.

Return type:

float
